Build out a roadmap of outcomes for our product that delivers value for the customer and is viable for the company.

I was one of three people tasked with developing a product roadmap for consideration by our executive leadership team.
approach
I started my roadmap by gathering all of the input information,I could find. My first input was the Customer Segment Map that our research team had put together. I wanted to center my roadmap around value delivery to the customer, so this was a vital filter for framing the other data and turning them into outcomes. I also considered a huge amount of customer feedback that we receive through various channels, our overarching company strategy and 5 year vision and with all of that in mind, synthesized those inputs into a few common themes. From those themes, I further consolidated into two Roadmap “Destinations”, or Outcomes. Visualizing those end state outcomes, I proceed to lay out items of work in a Now-Next-Later format, adding as much detail as possible to each item, while still keeping it abstract enough to empower a development team to utilize their skills and creativity to create a compelling solution.

The executive team combined the three draft roadmaps into one which proceeded to move forward.
